The Fire Escape Sessions

I created, booked, and hosted a secret free weekly concert series known as The Fire Escape Sessions. The series spawned an accompanying website, with photos, audio, and videos from the sessions and featured unique performances by Toronto artists.
Shows were never promoted publicly, with performers playing in front of an intimate audience made up of friends and residents of a work/live loft in downtown Toronto, CA.
Artists often commented on how great it was to play on the fire escape, in front of a small but completely captive audience. Many used the opportunity to try new songs or covers. The atmosphere was fun and casual for all involved.
We were treated to performances by some of Toronto's best indie acts, including Maccie Pacquette, Graydon James, Steve Pulchalski, Darren Eedens, Terra Lightfoot, and Seas. We were also fortunate to have these performances captured by some of Toronto's best up and coming photographers and videographers - namely Connie Tsang, Josh MacDonald, and Andrew Williamson.
In the beginning, most of the performances were a solo musician with an acoustic guitar. However, it wasn't long before the fire escape saw duets, amps, drums, keyboards, and full band performances.

The loft we played at was home to many local musicians, including Itchy Bones (above).
The fire escape quickly gained many friends, including Danny Greaves of the Watchmen, who stopped by with his keyboard to play one of the more unique performances of the sessions.
Friends were made, new artists were discovered, and much enjoyment was shared over the 2 seasons and 50+ shows. I was constantly astounded by the incredible artists that came out every week to play for free in front of a handful of people.
Photos and videos from the fire escape would end up on a tumblr site that can still be found at http://thefireescapesessions.tumblr.com
